This is a great alternative to highway-area food. I travel through Auburn all the time and for once I was not driving, so I got on the iPhone and figured out a place to go where my kids could eat real food. I found the Italian Grille. It will take a few extra minutes to get there in comparison to the highway-centric restaurants, but it's worth it. It was Sunday lunch and the place was mostly empty. It was relaxing. I enjoyed the plentiful windows. It's been over a month, so I don't specifically remember being floored by the food. But, then again, I would remember if it was bad. Food alone would be bordering 3-4 stars. Because it was very kid-friendly (1 and 3 year olds) it gets the four. Our bill was $25 pre-tip and that was for two adult lunches, two sodas and one kid's meal.
The margherita pizza is awesome. Fresh toppings and a light, slightly chewy crust. The dipping oil and spices for the bread, not so much. Need a nicer oil if it's going to be the highlight like that. But the bread itself was good. All salad dressings are bottled, but okay. A waitress (not ours) came by and offered to help us choose food, which was nice. The owner came out and talked to all the patrons while we were there. Overall, a nice restaurant in town, with great pizza and friendly, helpful service.
